October 2nd marked another milestone moment for the City of Lynwood as we officially celebrated the ribbon cutting for our new Starbucks — a project that represents both environmental progress and economic opportunity for our community.

What once stood as a vacant, contaminated property has now been transformed into a thriving, welcoming space that serves residents, commuters, and visitors alike. The transformation of this site was made possible through the Equitable Community Revitalization Grant (ECRG), funded by the California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC), which provided essential resources to clean up the property and prepare it for safe, productive reuse.

We extend our deepest appreciation to DTSC for their continued partnership and to the Los Angeles Regional Water Quality Control Board for their oversight and guidance during the remediation process. Their collaboration ensured the site met environmental safety standards while paving the way for new investment in our city.

The opening of Starbucks is more than just the arrival of a new coffee shop — it’s a symbol of progress, resilience, and community investment. This project has created an estimated 40 local jobs and brought a new, convenient amenity for residents, commuters, and visitors. Whether it’s grabbing a cup on the way to work or supporting local hires, this new addition reflects Lynwood’s continued commitment to revitalizing once-vacant, blighted sites and enhancing daily life for the community.

We also want to acknowledge the broader revitalization effort that this development represents. Starbucks sits adjacent to the now open Northgate Gonzalez Market, another ECRG-supported success that will bring healthy food access and hundreds of new jobs to Lynwood. Together, these projects showcase what’s possible when state agencies, local leadership, and dedicated private

partners work hand in hand to turn underutilized land into community assets.

The City of Lynwood is proud to welcome Starbucks to our community. We look forward to seeing this space become a daily destination — not just for coffee, but for connection, opportunity, and continued neighborhood pride.

This is another powerful example of what the ECRG grant was designed to achieve: transforming contaminated sites into catalysts for community growth.
